ENGLISH INTERNATIONAL EXAMS
COMMON ENGLISH
Key English Test (KET – level 1)
This is the first step for those who want to advance to higher levels.
KET is aimed at the beginners and is appropriate for those who want to gain basic knowledge of English.
It is possible to pass the exam after 180-200 lessons
Content of the exam:
1. Writing and reading (1 hour and 10 minutes)
2. Listening (approximately 30 minutes)
3. Conversation (8 to 10 minutes in a pair of candidates)
Preliminary English Test (PET – level 2)
Test of the ability to communicate in all four language skills on the level corresponding with 2/3 of knowledge needed to pass the FCE.
Candidate on this level should be able to handle lot of everyday situations which requires using English in one's home country or abroad while in contact with native speakers or other foreigners.
To pass this exam one should attend approximately 380 lessons.
Content of the exam:
1. Reading and writing (1 hour and 30 minutes)
2. Listening (approximately 40 minutes)
3. Conversation (10 to 12 minutes in a pair of candidates)
First Certificate in English (FCE – Level 3)
This is a common type of Cambridge ESOL tests.
The level of this test is "more advanced" and it requires knowledge of all language skills.
FCE is widely recognized in the trade and industry areas, for example in customer services or administrative work in the banking sector, air travel, and supply services and also at universities, technical colleges and other institutions.
To pass this exam one should attend approximately 500 to 600 lessons.
Content of the exam:
1. Reading (1 hour)
2. Writing (1 hour 20 minutes)
3. Using English (45 minutes)
4. Listening (approximately 40 minutes)
5. Speaking (approximately 14 minutes)
Certificate in Advanced English (CAE – Level 4)
Passing this exam proves very good knowledge of English.
Students achieved standard level of language in most situations - at work or during a study. CAE is accepted by most of the British universities as the proof of ability to study program in English.
Content of the exam:
1. Reading (1 hour 15 minutes)
2. Writing (1 hour 30 minutes)
3. Using English (1 hour)
4. Listening (approximately 40 minutes)
5. Speaking (15 minutes)
Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE – Level 5)
This is the oldest and the most difficult exam in this set.
CPE is a proof of the perfect knowledge of the language and is accepted by majority of institutions including almost all universities in the United Kingdom.
CPE is also recognized by a great number of international employers.
Content of the exam:
1. Reading (1 hour 30 minutes)
2. Writing (2 hours)
3. Using English (1 hour 30 minutes)
4. Listening (roughly 40 minutes)
5. Conversation (approximately 19 minutes).
